 MEASURING, SIZING AND FITTING

It is very important to order a gown in the correct size based upon measurements of your bust, waist, hips and height (with shoes).

Most designers have their own size charts so you may measure two different sizes from two different designers. Bridal wear sizing does not correlate against normal street wear sizes so it is best not worry about the number inside the dress but most importantly have the correct size for you ordered.

Almost all bridal wear will need some form of alteration to obtain that perfect fit for your big day.

If you are in between 2 sizes please bear in mind that it is always better for a perfect fit to have your seamstress take in a gown that is a little big than to have to let a gown out and possibly spoil the look along the way.

You should book your final fitting either with the retailer you purchased your gown from or an independant seamstress approximately 1 month before your wedding. You should expect to attend at least 2 appointments as more often than not your body will change slightly in these last few weeks.

Make sure you book your final fittings well in advance as the seamstresses do get very booked up.

Quick tips;

  • Take your shoes and the underwear you will be wearing to all your final fitting appointments.
  • If you are wearing a hoop under your gown please remember that this will push the hem out and up when considering alterations to the length of your gown.
